All Stainless Steel Is Not Created Equally
There are over one-hundred and fifty types of stainless steel. How do you know what you are getting, and which type is best for your application?
The most common types of stainless used for outdoor fixtures are 304 stainless and 316 stainless (often reffered to as marine-grade). While 304 offers excellent corrosion resistance to rain and fresh water, it can develop light surface rust (tea staining) if exposed to harsh environments and not regularly maintained. With its higher concentration of molybendum, 316 stainless offers better resistance to salt air and chlorine.
